Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists are a regulated health profession of primary care practitioners. We focus on the assessment, treatment and prevention of injury, disease and disability. We use a combination of treatment techniques including education, hands-on techniques (manual therapy) and exercise to maximize your recovery. Our goal is to give you the tools to take an active role in recovery preventing reoccurrence and optimizing function.

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy, also know as Manipulative Therapy, is the use of hands-on techniques to restore appropriate movement to joints, tissue and restore body mechanics. It may include a variety of techniques such as soft-tissue release, joint mobilizations, joint manipulation, myofascial release, mobilization of neural tissues etc. Physiotherapists who are Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT or FCAMT) have completed extensive post-graduate education/ training and have achieved internationally-recognized qualifications in manual/ manipulative therapy.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise Therapy is more than just exercises. It involves the use of specific exercises to target specific areas of dysfunction/ injury. At Miltowne Physiotherapy, we emphasize the importance of targeted, individually focused exercises to optimize our client’s recovery at every stage of their injury. These exercises typically emphasize the importance of flexibility, strength, stability and endurance as collective components to optimal functioning and performance. We emphasize the importance of Exercise Therapy with the use of our functioning gym within the clinic and the establishment of home exercise programs for our clients.

Modalities

At Miltowne Physiotherapy we utilize various modalities to promote and accelerate the body’s own healing process. These modalities promote healing by increasing blood flow, stimulating cell growth, addressing scar tissue and reducing pain and swelling. At Miltowne Physiotherapy, the modalities we use include, but are not limited to, ultrasound therapy, interferential current therapy (IFC), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), deep heat therapy and medical acupuncture.

Medical Acupuncture

At Miltowne Physiotherapy we are able to offer the use of medical acupuncture into your treatment experience. Acupuncture is an alternative therapy using needling techniques to alleviate pain and inflammation, to promote tissue healing and to compliment your rehabilitation experience. Acupucture has been used as an effective treatment technique, for a wide variety of conditions, for over 2000 years. Recent scientific research has helped support the use of acupuncture and has added to its popular use in Western Medicine.
